Spotted undergoing extensive cold weather testing, spy photographers have caught the first images showing an Aston Martin Rapide prototype with a full glass roof. Reaching from within inches of the windscreen to just short of the back window, the glass roof is lifted directly from the concept.
All the photos so far show test cars that are not heavily camouflaged, but clearly still a work in progress.
As reportedly recently, the Rapide will be the first ever Aston Martin built outside of the United Kingdom, thanks to a partnership up with Magna Steyr.
Given a strong interest in the Rapide, Aston Martin says it will build between 1000 and 2000 units per year, up from an original estimate of 500 or less. The car will be the second new model launched under Aston’s new ownership, following the DBS coupe.
Like Aston’s other models, the Rapide is built on the company’s VH (Vertical/Horizontal) architecture. Despite its sporty looks, it is roughly the size of a Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
